It’s official the reigning male and female vocalists will co-host the CMA Awards this year…Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley were officially announced as hosts for the 2009 CMA Awards. The two also hosted last years show.
“Last time,” remembers Paisley, “it was pretty late notice when we got word we were doing it, so we didn’t necessarily prepare the same way then as we will this time. This time we have more advance time.”
I guess, the most important question is…What will they be wearing?
“What if we color coordinate this year? Like for prom?” Underwood asked Paisley. “If I wear a red dress, you can wear a red vest or a red bowtie?”
“Deal!” he says. “If I wear a tie, I will match it to whatever you’re wearing.”

What do you think of Brad and Carrie co-hosting again this year??? I am…hmm..not thrilled….Brad is hysterical…Carrie…hmmm…well…I’ll use my famous phrase. She didn’t suck.

I love the two of them together and hosting the show. I really enjoyed it last year. It moved right along with no gaps and it was not boring. I think Carrie did great last year. It sure beats hearing giggles all the time. One thing about it Carrie does not put on a fake performance–she is the real deal. THE TOTAL PACKAGE!!!
I enjoyed Carrie’s hosting but I thought Brad was nervous acting and boring. Carrie could do it by herself or maybe put Blake Shelton with her…he’s funny. Brad is dull!
I thought they were both great last year and I……….hmmm……..well……knew you would not like Carrie doing it again.
Haha who did you WANT to do it? Rascal Flatts??
I think Brad and Carrie are the two best performers in country music today….SO glad they’re hosting again this year! they both (yes, carrie too) did an awesome job last year, and I can’t wait to watch again this year! CMA awards are like Christmas haha it’s my favorite night of the year!
Love Brad hosting, not thrilled about Carrie, but Brad will make up for whatever is lacking.
I’d like to see Brad and Keith host together, that would be pretty interesting and really hot. complete package.
Lioness-Carrie couldn’t handle Blake Shelton…she would get too embarrassed to actually say something funny.
Not surprised at your reaction at all since you ladies are mostly about flash over substnce anyway. IMO it’s important to realize that hosting is not just about being funny.
I think it’s great to have country music’s 2 best ambassadors, Brad and Carrie, hosting again. Carrie brings her college training to the table so she’s good with the technical stuff likes cues and teleprompter reading. Brad’s obviously a quick wit. They complement each other real well. And if you read everything Brad’s said he couldn’t be more complimentary of Carrie. Check out what he told USA Today:
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/post/2009/08/carrie-underwood-brad-paisley-return-as-cma-awards-hosts/1#uslPageReturn
“It’s a quality to be able to be quick to laugh and also act like yourself, and she has that,” he says. “She’s a very, very likable person, and you don’t always get to see that with performers. If it’s the Grammys or something, other than an acceptance speech, she’s singing a song. She could be any number of countless other nut jobs, as far as performers go. She could be crazy. You never know what somebody’s like.
“But hosting, I think that’s what I like best — you see who she really is in a way you don’t always get to. She’s very natural up there.”
I hope this is the year that Brad finally wins the CMA EOTY award that is so richly due him!
I’m so excited that Carrie is hosting again! she’s absolutely incredible! her and Brad are awesome together too
With Brad, the show should be a real sleeper!
Since this is a long show, they need people that r funny n spontaneous. Maybe Jake Owen n Jewel. Hope they have some new spins on the show….otherwise it will b the same ol, same ol. The last award show was horrible, all they had was TS, who is not country. She’s just popular w/the teenagers, she’s their . I hope they don’t make the WHOLE SHOW about her. She can’t sing (off key every song she sings live) n the most horrible dancer I’ve ever seen on TV. (Barf) I don’t understand why country bows down to her. Give me someone like McBride any time. After seeing the last show, I’m gonna just Tivo this show, so i can just skip all the crappy stuff.
I wonder how many costume changes Carrie will have this year? What she lacks in personality she makes up in wardrobe. Not really a huge fan of her hosting again
You are such a Carrie Hater Tawny. JEALOUS MUCH!
You know it amazes me how people can say they hate an artist without really knowing them. I can understand if they don’t like their music–but to hate is such a strong emotion-and not healthy. There are some artists music that I don’t like–but I don’t hate them.. I just don’t listen to their music. One thing about Carrie is that she NEVER says an unkind word about anyone and through all her success she has maintained her strong morals and deep faith. In my opinion that is someone to admire–and I do!!!! My Mom approves of Carrie also. She is glad that Carrie is an inspiration and role model for me.
When they look for a host or hosts, the CMA and ABC are looking for a few things: someone who’s won a good number of CMA Awards and has a great reputation in the industry, someone who’s going to bring the ratings (including younger people), someone who’s telegenic, and someone who can actually do the job. When you consider those criteria, Brad & Carrie are the obvious choices and the fact that they’re friends and they got good reviews and ratings last year doesn’t hurt.
Have y’alll seen the official press release? Brad and Carrie’s comments are hilarious!

CntryLady…I don’t HATE Carrie…in fact, I don’t HATE anybody…However, I just think she lacks personality. The one funny thing she’s ever said in her life at the ACM’s last year about Matthew’s boots, she took back all embarassed…Actually, it was great…It actually made her seem like there was something special under the voice, make-up, and hair…Don’t get me wrong, that girl can SING!!!! But, even in concert, her audience interaction is very un-natural…I get it’s a script, but you’re not suppose to look like you’re reading it.
Tawny I went to a few of Carrie’s concerts and there is a big difference from a year or so ago. She is very interactive with her audience and is very funny. She is constantly maturing and improving on her stage presence. I think she does great. I have a friend who attended 3 meet & greets and she said that Carrie is shy and very sweet and sincere. Do you know Carrie? Have you ever met her? Could it be that she is just a small town country girl who is very shy?
“The one funny thing she’s ever said in her life at the ACM’s last year about Matthew’s boots, she took back all embarassed…”
Carrie didn’t take it back. Fox News made it sound like her “I’m so embarrassed! I’m so stupid” comments were serious but Carrie did radio interviews after where she said she was just yammering because she was so excited right after she won EOTY. It was Carrie being self-deprecating not Carrie apologizing. She even said in the interviews that she felt bad because Matthew McC thought she was seriously apologizing (I guess he reached out to her to tell her she didn’t have to, but she wasn’t in the first place).
If you really think that’s “the one funny thing she’s ever said in her life” (exaggerate much? Try being a little less biased next time Tawny), then you just haven’t paid attention. Carrie’s done lots of funny radio interviews, her ACM 2008 outtakes with Brad are really funny (mostly the one with the Reba comment), she had a pretty funny post-CMA 2008 interview with Brad Schmitt on WKRN talking about seeing Brad Paisley changing, and on and on. Plus her blogs on her fan club can be very funny (like the ones about her baking adventures). She also posts blogs as her dog Ace at the fan club and those are HYSTERICAL.
Mostly Carrie’s a shy girl and she probably opens up more at the fan club where she doesn’t feel judged but there’s lots of examples of her showing her personality. Sometimes people miss it because they’re so busy looking for obvious things that they missed understated stuff like Carrie’s. Oh and guess who gets that? Blake Shelton. Check out what he said about Carrie.

” If you know people from Oklahoma, the first thing you get from them is a pretty laid-back sense of humor. I see it in Carrie Underwood. I love to watch her in interviews. A lot of people think of her as this shy, very perfect all-American girl, and I hear her being a smartass all the time in her interviews. I love it, because I know her personality. I know where she comes from and what she’s thinking a lot of the time. ”
By the way I love Brad but he stumbled over his teleprompter lines a lot last year, which was something Carrie was clearly much better at than him. But because of your preconceptions all you thought about was Brad being funny. Maybe just maybe your preconceptions could use some tuning up instead you using them to make more erroneous and unfair statements about Carrie.
You’re all right…I don’t know Carrie…But, I’ve seen her on a few GAC shows, seen her in concert, and on awards shows…I’m never impressed by her ‘personality.’ That doesn’t mean she doesn’t have one…it just means I’ve never seen it. For all of you who thought she was great last year…Congrats! You’ll be very entertained this again this year…And, if you read my comments, I’ve said nothing erroneous or unfair…what I said was opinion…I wasn’t impressed with her stage presence during her concert or on the awards…I get I may be a minority…That’s never bothered me before…Just ask Country Girl. LOL So kudos to all of you who have witnessed the non-boring Carrie…Hopefully one day, i too will see it.
“And, if you read my comments, I’ve said nothing erroneous or unfair…”
You said that the Matthew McC comment was “the one funny thing she’s ever said in her life” That’s a direct quote from you Tawny. You don’t think that’s erroneous and unfair? I gave you lots of examples that show it is. I know I know you were exaggerating to make a point but that doesn’t make the comment less unfair.
Ok, i see where taking everything very literally all of a sudden…let’s have a requote ” it was the ONE funny thing I’ve ever heard her say.” Better? Geeze…
I said I knew you were exaggerating to make a point so I wasn’t taking you literally. I said I still thought it was unfair but your requote is better.
Anyway another erroneous comment you made is about how Carrie handled her Matthew McC comment. She DIDN’T take it back, Fox News got it wrong and the tabloids went to town about it, acting like there was some kind of scandal Carrie was apologizing for when there was no scandal and Carrie wasn’t apologizing. She made that clear in many radio interviews after the ACMs.
Tawny has never said that she hated Carrie. He has said that she lacks personality but at the same time rewards her on her vocals. In both private and public conversations Tawny has said on many occasions that Carrie deserves Female Vocalist of the Year awards. I agree Carrie lacks a bit of personality on stage compared to many other female performers. She wasn’t in the same ball park as Reba in hosting awards shows. SORRY ladies. I think that a lot of fans stay true to an artist in good times and bad – rightly so – but it doesn’t always make them right.
Carrie is a shy person and she has said she was. She is getting better at her concerts and anything else she does publicly. Everytime you have a comment Carrie it alway half-ass compliments and negative at the same time. That leads me to believe you don’t LIKE her. I am going to stand up for her, because I have seen her and met her once. She is very sweet, and not all show like some other country artists
Go to this and see how sweet Carrie is. Look at the pictures and the video. This girl has a great, sweet personality. You should be so lucky!
