Twainiacs – Seriously? Twainiacs – is that a real word? I had no idea that fans of Shania Twain called themselves Twainiacs. Something else that I learned today is that Twainiacs have held an annual Shania Twain Convention in Timmons Canada for the last seven years.
According to the Peterborough Examiner fans have ventured from all over the globe, coming from as far away as the Netherlands and England. Quite a few of the participants reside in the U. S.
Some activities that you can participate in during the convention include:
- Going to city hall to meet the mayor and then to CTV to see where Shania used to do interviews.
- Attendees will also get to spend a day at a boy scount camp to showcase Timmins’ natural bounty
Tracy Hautanen manager of Shania Twain Centre says:
“We know that Shania loves the outdoors, so we thought that would be a good tie-in. Shania went to summer camp, so we’re taking them to summer camp. We’re going to roast hot dogs around the camp fire, have a scavenger hunt and a nature walk.”
The convention will also feature a few special guests that will be attending the event, people from Shania’s past who are going to chat with the fans. Other events include an awards ceremony, karaoke and, of course, the official visit to the Shania Twain Centre.
What is nice to see is that country music is once again able to build friendships and bonds through it’s magic. Seems most people attend each year to come together with friends and have a “family reunion” of sorts.
