Our friend Kristi was out and about again last week catching up on some of the summer’s big country music out of California. Yes….country music makes it all the way out yonder! Here is her review for the Kiss Country Summer Concert Series:
On July 15, Kiss Country 93.7 in Fresno, Calif. held their third concert of the summer as part of their annual $5 Summer Concert Series in Woodward Park. The show featured Sarah Darling, Jesse Lee, Krista Marie, Jessica Harp, and Chuck Wicks. Ticket sales showed that approximately 3,500 people would be in attendance at the outdoor amphitheater of Woodward Park.
Blazing temperatures of 107 didn’t stop Fresno fans from coming out to support the artists. Some fans got there as early as noon even though gates didn’t open until 5 p.m. I watched on Twitter all day as all of the artists posted tweets about how they were hoping they wouldn’t melt in the scorching California sun. Luckily, they all survived and gave us all an amazing show!
Sarah Darling opened the show with the Star Spangled Banner and continued with a set of about five songs. I think she has a lot of potential to become a big star if only she could get the proper amount of promotion and get her name/face out there for the fans. That girl can sing! Her single, “Jack of Hearts”, was the fan favorite.
Jesse Lee took the stage next and rocked out with plenty of energy. She seems very comfortable on stage and seemed to really enjoy the show, despite the crazy heat. She was very spunky and the audience seemed to like her a lot. The favorite song of the night was, of course, “It’s a Girl Thing.”
Next up was newcomer Krista Marie who got the crowd going with her songs “Beep Beep” and “Drive It Like I Stole It.” She was full of energy and bounced around that stage like she wasn’t even bothered by the insane heat. She even brought up Kiss Country morning show DJ Tom Jordan and gave him a little performance of his own. The highlight was having Tom’s wife go up on stage and give Krista a hard time for it while taking pictures along the side of the stage.
Jessica Harp was the next artist on the bill and the crowd loved her. She performed songs from her new record which will be coming out in September, as well as her #1 hit as a Wrecker, “Leave The Pieces.” Highlights for me included her new tracks “Breakup Song,” “Letting Go,” and her single, “Boy Like Me.” During her set, she pointed out that she had just seen someone backstage wearing the same dress she had on and said, “Gotta love Target, right?” Any star that still shops for clothes at Target gets an A in my book!
Chuck Wicks ended the show and the crowd went absolutely crazy for him. The ladies sure do love them some Chuck!!! He glided through hits such as “All I Ever Wanted,” “Man of the House,” “Stealing Cinderella,” and a cover of the #1 Eddie Rabbitt song from 1980, “Drivin’ My Life Away.” He even took out his video camera at one point during the show to film the audience singing Happy Birthday to his girlfriend, Julianne Hough. People.com had asked Chuck to put something together for her to put on their web site on her birthday on Monday, so be on the lookout for that.
And even in the miserable heat, Sarah Darling, Jesse Lee, and Krista Marie were nice enough to hang around to take pictures and sign autographs with the fans.
Once again, Kiss Country has outdone themselves with another great summer concert. Up next: Caitlin & Will, Kate & Kacey, and Rodney Atkins in August!
Kristi we love how much you love country music girl! We can’t wait to hear your next review! Keep up the great work!
