Yesterday, songwriters Kelley Lovelace, Dallas Davidson, and Ashley Gorely celebrated their hit song ”Start A Band” a mere 6 months after it scored #1. What was the hold-up? Basically…scheduling. Try to get 3 writers and 2 major country music artists all together on the same date took some time…and…Well…they couldn’t pull it off either. In the end, neither Brad Paisley or Keith Urban could make the party.
The acheivement was especially sweet for Dallas Davidson because “Start A Band” is the first song of his to hit the number 1 slot, and writing it was a complete accident. Dallas accidentally double-booked a writing session…so, the three decided to write together. Kelley came up with the premise on the way over and the rest was written within a few hours.
Once we got it done, we had learned that Brad liked the song,” Ashley recalled. “Then we started kind of envisioning him on it, how cool that would possibly be, and it didn’t end up finding a home on that 5th Gear album, which he was working on at the time, and so we’re like, ‘Oh, there goes that.’ Usually people don’t come back around and remember songs like that.”
This is a great song and one of my favorites from Brad Paisley. It doesn’t hurt that Keith Urban’srippin up his guitar on it too.
