Keith Urban Tells Security Off

Keith Urban is pretty well known for getting ‘in’ with the fans during his shows…At every show, he ventures out into the crowd, inviting fans to grope and grab him…During his ‘Escape Together World Tour’ Keith is doing this even more frequently.  Ramps along the sides of the stage litterally help him blend right into the crowd, and he runs through the crowd to get to a small satelite stage in the back of the arena.

If you’ve been to a Keith show sometime in the past couple of years, you also know that your ticket…good or bad…is irrelevant.  Once Keith takes the stage, he and his security team invite everyone down to the floor.  This may sound like a good idea…and I guess it sort of is….However, if you’re one of the lucky few who happened to actually pull cat-walk seats in the front; you’ll find yourself fighting someone from the lower level for a few feet along the catwalk….hmmmm…… I had perfect seats in Huntsville and I found myself actually hurting because I was getting shoved so hard…

There are several videos on Youtube of Keith telling security where to go…The top one is from a recent show in Texas, and the bottom one is from way back in 2006.

  1. This is alright, Keith doing this ‘bit’ at every show. But wait til someone gets seriously hurt. And another thing, if you paid for crap seats, you should stay in them and let those that paid more enjoy not getting shoved in the back or having an elbow in the face. I love Keith’s music, my website is testament to that, but he really needs to rethink this. Nid.

I adore Keith and I thinks awesome that he tries to make his show as personable for his fans as possible. And while I admit security can be pretty tight/annoying in certain venues, they are there to keep him and the fans safe. The moment he says something like that he invites trouble. Plus – I pay for his fanclub and the opportunity to get closer seats, the last thing I want is someone up in the cheap seats running down and blocking MY view.

I don’t blame those from nosebleed seats for wanting to get closer to Keith but seriously NOT every person in attendance can be up near the stage—-NOT possible. I sure hope that a serious injury like at some concerts of other performers doesn’t happen. Keith wants to connect with his fans but he would be heart broken if one of those fans was hurt or worse killed. It only takes one instance for a stampede and then injury or death in these kinds of situations. Hopefully it can all be worked out safely.

I agree completely. I was once lucky enough to get a front row seat. And when I saw someone who had seen sitting 20+ rows back all of a sudden standing NEXT TO ME for the whole Keith show. I was really upset. If it’s the front row or two and security won’t let them go forward, then okay, that’s unreasonable. But to say that EVERYONE can come down?! Totally asking for trouble. ALSO, when it’s just a “bit” that he does at every show, it’s not the same as if there was an actual problem with security that needs to be corrected. Of course when I’m in the nosebleeds I wish I was closer. But I stay there!

I agree with all that has been said here. If Keith wants a free for all he should make his shows general admission then people can jockey for a spot, otherwise sit in the seat you paid for and deal with it.

I also LOVE Keith Urban. His music fills my entire day from the moment I get up until I fall asleep. I’m consumed with his amazing talent and his big heart. However, this situation with him insisting that everyone can come up front breaks my heart and I’m confused as to why he continues to promote this kind of thing on a nightly basis. I realize that Keith enjoys having the fans close but i can’t believe that someone so smart with such care and concern for his fans, others and children is willing to condone and even promote the chaos that’s been going on in the area around his catwalk. I’ve witnessed fans of his shouting and cursing at security even before the show begins, just for doing their job of asking the fans to leave the floor area and go to where they bought tickets for. People, including me, have paid good money for seats in the front only to have others push, shove, kick, bad mouth, dump drinks on and lie to stand in front of us until it’s pretty much impossible to stand even close to our seats without having to resort to becoming aggressive just to keep our spot that we PAID for. I’m so turned off at this point and i can’t help but to think of the many others just beginning to experience Keith and his music who are feeling the same way. There’s something wrong when you have one of the best performers ever on stage giving his all for 2 hours and people are leaving feeling like they didn’t get their moneys worth. What about those security guards and ushers who are being cussed out by Keith for doing nothing more than their job? Obviously there are some who are jerks out there but the vast majority are there to enjoy the show while they work, help keep people safe and have a good time. I wonder how they feel when the night is over? I personally have decided to skip some of the more local shows coming up because I’m having a hard time wanting to be a part of something like this.

I’m so worried this is going to hurt Keith in the long run and I hope he soon sees that it’s just not a good situation before someone gets seriously injured.
