For the past 4 years, Rascal Flatts has played Nashville’s Sommet Center and given all the money to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital… According to Music City TV…not this year…
“In a lot of the difficult economic times everybody seems to be going through right now, we felt like it was perfect time for us to take a year off and then hit it hard again next year with our Vanderbilt fundraiser.”
Maybe it’s just me, but one would assume that tough economic times is the PERFECT time to do a fundraiser. I’m sure hospital donations are down, and they could probably use the money….So, is this about Rascal Flatts not selling-out shows due to the economy and not wanting to give up money for a fundraiser, or do they really not want to place a financial burden on their fans??? Hmmm….
Many country artists are scaling back this year…well…okay, they aren’t scaling back…But they are cutting ticket prices and taking a hit to their profits to ensure the fans can still afford to come out and have a good time….But canceling a fundraiser show??!! Really?!

I am a die hard Rascal Flatts fan and have been since 2003. I will be the first to tell you that Rascal Flatts are the best in country music right now (in my opinion of coarse) BUT THIS MAKES ME SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MAD! You know darn well that they will add another city in Nashville’s place this year and it has nothing to do with giving Nashville fans a break in these “hard times”. What a bunch a bull! This is them not doing a show in Nashville because if they did they would be expect to give the ticket sales to the hospital and they just don’t want to this year. I am very sure that these hard times are not effecting these guys……Sore excuse and can’t even believe they said it. I am a very sad and upset Nashville fan right now. If you are worried about fans and the economy then make your stage show smaller and lower your ticket prices. That is something that fans will understand in these hard times.
First off, why must people cricsize these guys every chance they get? You don’t see Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, etc. doing any kind of charity shows ever.. Just because they are taking a year off it doesn’t mean they have turned their backs on the hosptial.. They are one of the few artists out there who are really hands on and really care.. They don’t just sit back and write huge checks, they take the time to visit the kids, etc.. Rascal Flatts are some of the sweetest guys ever.. Their charity work means alot to them.. Yes, it’s dissapointing they aren’t playing a huge show in Nashville this year, it doesn’t mean they stil won’t do something privately for the hospital…
I agree with Samantha…while this IS kind of shocking, people shouldn’t jump to conclusions. No one knows the full story behind why they won’t do the concert, and they have already given so much. Seriously, how many artists out there have given THREE MILLION to any cause?? These guys are generous and sweet; others shouldn’t judge because they have chosen to take a break.
I find this “odd” to say the least! I know these guys personally and have known them for about 13 years (even spent some one on one time with 1 of them on n off for YEARS)
This is confusing……They are 3 of the MOST GIVING PEOPLE I know…..I worked @ Vandy & let me tell you this….it’s the “VANDY” way or no way at all….It’s really quite scary at times….LOL BUT I would guess that the decision to NOT do this fundraiser HAS ALOT of
“BEHIND CLOSED DOORS” BIZ going on !! SO DO NOT BE SO QUICK TO JUDGE! If it happens to be that “THE GUYS” really did get greedy & just flake it off…..I WILL LET YA’LL
KNOW!!! ‘TIL then….keep the FAITH…the AMERICAN WAY is Innocent until PROVEN guilty….RIGHT? GOD BLESS 2 Ya!
I agree…They have done so much for charity, no artists even come close to doing what they do for others! Even if they did “get greedy” and decided not to do the show, I don’t see it as a big deal; everyone deserves a break once in awhile, no matter what the reason.
I am outraged as being a Rascal Flatts Concert Alumni, Rascal Flatts 5 year Fan Club Member, an avid Rascal Flatts fan, and a Vanderbilt Sponsor. These premeditated, adolescent actions made by either Rascal Flatts or their Tour Manager are disturbing not only to the city of Nashville but also to the children of Vanderbilt Medical Center. Even if you are not going to do the concert still give some of the proceeds from the previous shows. It is greatly needed and will be greatly appcreciated. Gary, Jay, and Joe Don are class act people who change people’s lives by living their every day lives. They have blessed so many people with music, maybe they just need a break, maybe its because of the economy, but I believe no matter what they’ll make the best decision because you don’t know where you are going until you know where you came from. I am still bobbing my head, hanging with my gang in mayberry, praying for daylight everydaaaaayyyyyy, here’s to ya’ll!
