Kenny Chesney fans are hoping to speak out and change the upcoming policy changes to his Sun City Carnival Tour.
In a post on the Lady Antebellum boards fans are asking that you help speak up for them:
AS IN THIS SUBJECT MATTER DOES AFFECT YOU TOO THIS YEAR! PLEASE ACT ON THIS!!—
this was posted as of may 27th by Cheryl on kc’s fc we will fight back! even george strait the king of country music does not act this picky/silly! so start by calling bna records ! kc label and protest we are fc members and should not be ignored or treated like this! the # is
615-301-4444 ask for who is over kenny or his promotion manager!!! tell them its shameful of them not to let us faithful fans keep the cameras!! they tried this in 06 and we fought back and won! lets win again in 2009!! will have his management’s phone number for you in a later email! we will also get a petition going! please fight with us against this silly policy!!! thanks!!****Camera/Video Policy Change****
Hey Gang! Effective June 1st, 2009 folks will no longer be allowed to carry cameras into Kenny’s concerts. Cell phones and cameras with recording devices have made it impossible for us to honor our contractural obligations with our partners and record label of prohibiting recordings and such. The ones that have chosen to ignore all of the repeated request and warnings have left us with no other option but to enforce a NO Camera Policy at shows. As always, your bags will be checked at the door and you will NOT be allowed admittance with a camera in hand. To avoid long walks back to the parking lot, Please leave them in your vehicles. The security detail will be seizing any unauthorized cameras found inside the gates. Please help us make this transition an easy one. We know it isn’t an ideal situation, but our numerous request have gone unnoticed and this is our only way of stopping the unauthorized recording of Kenny’s shows it.
WOW! I just can’t believe that someone would go to this major of a policy change. I think it’s plain silly and ridiculous. Do you have any idea how many concert calls I enjoy getting from my friends? Do you know how many awesome pictures I have in my scrapbooks from my thousands of concerts? I really hope that this DOES NOT turn into an industry standard. It would take a lot of the fun out of the memories I hold with some of my favorite artists.
What are your thoughts on this new policy change at Kenny Chesney concerts?
**UPDATE: Nashville Gab has just found out that Kenny’s new “Policy” has been retracted….here is the newest version…
Cameras will be allowed at the shows for STILL photos only! However, if you are caught videoing with your camera or your cell phone…you are subject to lose them. Please help us keep cameras at the shows….by not using the recording devices on your electronic devices. We will have increased personnel at the shows helping us out with this, so we ask that all of you please let your fellow fans know that videoing is not allowed….if you happen to see them doing it at a show.
This is an ongoing problem…and we want you guys to be able to have photos to carry home…but not videos! Thanks for helping us out with this….
Looks like Kenny’s peeps smartened up and realized what was best…

Unfortunately, a lot of people who record videos at concerts have ruined things like this for fellow concert-goers. I’m not going to lie – I’ve done it myself, but mostly only at the shows were there are absolutely NO announcements made that prohibit it. And once, I went to country concert where they said no at first, then the artist’s TOUR MANAGER came up on stage and said, “Just for tonight only, you can take videos.” I do love them because I can re-count my night, but at the same time, it’s the memories (and picutres) that count, and I haven’t taken a video in such a long time now, because getting a nice, clear, close-up picture of the artist is what REALLY counts.
And when I hear about “no camera policies” it gets me fuming as well. And Kenny…he’s HUGE…why would he do this? Not fair!
I think that they could try something like – If you are caught recording you will be ejected from the concert. This is a little radical to go straight to. I know you can’t catch everyone but this would be a start.
I can tell you as a mother I would not leave my cell phone in the car for a concert that is a few hours long. NO WAY! I have to be able to be available if my kids need me for something. THIS IS NOT FAIR TO FANS who obey the rules and it’s just plain silly! THIS BETTER NOT turn into an industry standard or country music will have a lot of PISSED OFF fans.
I think the worst thing is that is going all the way to CELL PHONES. Just about all the cell phones nowadays have cameras – and I would hate not to have my cell phone with me at a show especially coming back from a concert in the dark in a city like places like DETROIT. It’s a safety measure.
I can understand the no camera but its a safety issue when it comes to having a cell phone… I feel 10x safer having my cell phone with me.
I think it sux esp. since I am going to his concert tonight in Atlanta. I was hoping to get my camera in.
I hate it. I always keep my cellphone on so my family can get ahold of me if they need me. I’m not going to pay his prices to see him and be told I can’t bring my cellphone in. It hurts the meet and greets that are still taken with your camera.
Well ya know…..
I say…Kenny and his people can kiss my big rosey backside!
No more money of mine will go his way…greedy bastards!
I don’t even understand the big deal of taking video in the first place. 99% of them are put up on YouTube and help promote the artist so that people might be more likely to see them in concert if they liked what they saw from a few YouTube clips!
Gotta add to that last comment, that although I don’t see the big deal, I never have taken video. I always figure I’d be one of the ‘lucky’ people that get caught and get in trouble.
i am so upset to hear this i am going to the show on aug.13 and i now regret buying the tickets i spent 100$ for the worst seats and i cant even bring my camera or my phone wtf is that i prolly wont even go to the show and i will NEVER buy a ticket again!
Unfortunately, he won’t even lose fans over this – sure, some, but not enough to even matter, I’m sure. Neither he nor his management will care. It’s pathetic.
And I didn’t even address the cell phones in my earlier comment, but that IS a safety measure to keep it with you and there could be some REAL problems (because recording a video just ISN’T) if you’re not allowed to have it with you! I was told that there are issues involving the promoters and labels if you take personal video, but I still don’t see it. I would think it would only help bolster their image. Whatever.
For some people, they have to have cell phones if they have kids or someone needs to get in touch with them…..that is just stupid.
Promoters as in Corona/Crown Spirits or is this Louie Messina and his team?
I understand all the stuff that ends up on you tube but that happens for artists. This just does NOT make ANY sense!
I’m not a Kenny Fan…and this just helps my point…A lot of artists admit to watching their videos on youtube to check out the show…see what the fan sees…read the comments…I really think this is a business move…it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see Kenny take advantage of the picture demand he created and start selling pictures of the shows…He’ll probably hire a pro-photographer and videoagrapher to take shots and allow people to pay to download them. All I can say is, that is BULL-kaka!! Seriously, I want pictures that I took…The cell phones is just stupid! I will NOT chance not having my phone cuz that would be the one time something happened to my kids and I was useless…Kenny Chesney, you’re greedy! I think we need a little fiesta from you…go out to your island, drink some of your rum, and pass-out for a few…um….decades.
WOW! That is messed up! Usually I just keep my words to myself, but not this time. I agree with Denise..I just don’t get it either about the recording. I mean you would think they would like some free advertising from people sharing the videos or pictures online to possibly thousands of viewers. But then some videos might be bad press or whatever..like if the artist(s) happens to just flip out and go crazy or something..I don’t guess the artist(s) and their people wouldn’t want it shown. But that’s why ya gotta watch what you say or do if you don’t want to be embarrassed or anything because you don’t know who is watching.
And with the no camera policy I guess they think people with good SLR digital cameras or such are taking pics just to try to sell and make money off of them. I’ve seen it on ebay, but come on…not everyone is going to do that. If you’re truly a fan of an artist or music/concerts in general then you’re more than likely taking pics to remember later on down the road when you’re old and gray.
I mean I absolutely love taking pics at concerts and it just stinks when you find out that you can’t take pics or can’t do this or that. I’ve gone to see this one band out of Memphis a good bit the last few years and the main singer has noticed when I have bought a new camera(which has only been twice) without even mentioning it haha. I ALWAYS have my camera in my hand with me at shows and it saddens me when I can’t use it and I feel awkward. You never know when you could run into your favorite artist and have that Kodak moment! I don’t think it’s right for the many of us who don’t break the rules. I’ve been to some shows where they would take your camera and “hold” it until you left because of no camera policy at a venue for $2 but then when we went in and it was show time there were cameras all around and security or whoever didn’t do a thing or announce it either and that just isn’t right. They know people will try to sneak them in and if the venue is going to have rules they should try their darn best to stick with them and not let some things slide. This is about as dumb as No Standing at shows and I feel awkward sitting down too most of the time. I know some people have disabilities to where they may not can stand the whole time and can’t see and there needs to be a GOOD area for those people to where they can have a great view of the stage too. But If they’re going to go through with this no camera deal as an industry, which I REALLY pray they don’t, then venues would need to hire more people to stand at each section closely watching and make sure NO ONE has cameras for this to work and to be fair.
And how on earth could they do away with cell phones?! We never know when something might happen to where we might need to call family or police due to an emergency or some sort of situation.
You know, my question would be if they did this is would there be a dramatic decrease in concert attendance…if so, they would lose a lot of money I figure. Oh and I bet there probably would be a decrease at CMA Fest if they were to start this policy. Would y’all still go see your favorite performers in concert if the whole industry went with the no camera policy??
Just another reason for me to not be a Kenny fan…
Anyways, If they are so worried about the videos appearing on youtube why doesn’t his label do like Warner has done and prohibit videos of any of their artists from appearing on youtube…It’s not hard to do….
Maybe Kenny finally watched a you tube of himself….ha!
Seriously, I was sorely disappointed with Chesney last time I saw in concert, but I’d possibly pay to go again if liked a couple of the other artists on the ticket….. but if I can’t bring my cell phone to make sure my kids are okay…nope. Forget that!
wow! first of all! I paid $250 for my sandbar ticket, and now to be told that I CAN’T bring my camera, even if I just want pictures of me and my friends having a good time, really bites! What also stinks is that Lady A, Miranda, and Sugarland don’t (or I’m not aware of) have any issue with cameras! This totally stinks and I’m pretty sure it’s possible to get videos on youtube deleted if not approved by artist!
I think this is total BS and makes me very happy that I’m not a Kenny fan! As much as I would hate giving up a camera I could do it, but there is not a chance in HELL I would give up my phone. My opinion is that this policy was probably made because anymore EVERYTHING gets caught on video and they don’t want anything bad to end up online.
I hate the anti-camera policies, but cell phones really?! Last time I check the quality of any cell phone picture of video wasn’t even moderate. Even camera videos are shacky and low quality, so it’s not like someone could go sell the video … and I agree it’s ADVERTISING! I cherish my concert pictures because they are really the only thing you can take away from a concert once it’s over! Kenny should be more fan-orientated, I really don’t get how he wins ETOY every year! Don’t chose a promoter who has so many ridiculous demands, like no cameras.
Security could definitely improve, bring in cops if they have to to stand with each security guard. If you’re caught video recording you lose the camera and get escorted out. This is a rotten stinking mess these few IDIOTS who just had to record have turned this all into. I just bought a new camera at Wal-mart for $400 like 2 months ago, now I possibly can’t use it in 3 weeks? NO FREAKING DANG FAIR or WAY! I have NOT seen Kenny since the Sept 8 2007 show in Atlanta and was too far back to even get any good pics, I could hardly tell ya about any of it since I took so few pics. I remember the pre show tailgating parties best. I was excited about being in the 4th row, but now I could almost trade it for an upper level seat where it’s harder for him to see me with the camera, cuz I’d be the one to risk sneaking it in and not get it out ’til I’m at my seat in the middle of the section. If Kenny goes No Camera I don’t know if I will ever spend another $100 (face value) to see him again, when I can attend other artists’ shows that ALLOW picture taking. I love Kenny but I don’t agree with the camera & phone ban one bit.
This is absolutely not fair to all of his opening acts (can’t figure out why anyone would want pictures or videos of KC). Youtube video and the photos fans post on the fanclub websites are the best publicity they could ask for, plus it’s all free. I have a lot of videos friends have shot at concerts, and even if they’re in the front row it’s never of a quality that would prevent me from buying a professionally-filmed DVD an artist releases. I’ve used all of my video stored on my computer to convert a lot of people to my favorite country singers and share my concert experiences with my friends. I’ve been to rock shows that enforce this policy, but “no cameras” is JUST NOT THE COUNTRY MUSIC WAY! Just another reason why I would never vote for KC for any EOTY awards.
This is total b.s!!! I can’t go to a show without taking pictures. I did go to a show earlier this year and the venue I was at said no pictures and I was pretty pissed. Thankfully, they let up on everyone when the headliner came out but it was still a crappy thing to do. Openers are the ones who want their pictures taken and people sharing them and the concert experience with everyone to help get more fans.
I’m planning on seeing Kenny at a festival later next month. Are they really going to not let cameras allowed at a music festival??
As someone who has been a fan of Kenny’s- this is hard to defend and I’m not even going to. Sorry but Kenny you’ve gotten too big for your britches! Kenny’s concerts haven’t been the same for about 3 years now I imagine he started this policy because he just doesn’t want record that his shows are going down hill- then no one would pay the $100 (or more) a ticket to go see a sub par show. I think it is time for him to spend some time on his boat and recapture the humble island spirit that used to be loved by so many Kenny Chesney fans. Not allowing cameras or cell phones at a concert is absurd especially when you are paying so much for a ticket- these are our memories. I understand that recordings of concerts show up online when they aren’t supposed to but I would think if someone saw a piece of an awesome show it would make them want to spend their hard earned dollars to come see your show- I know there are people who abuse the video recording policy but why punish those of us just going for a good time? What a crock!
He’s still going to allow the drunkin’ tailgates right? That’s all I care about…like I’d want to record him anyways. Sucks for the opening acts though.
This is ridiculous. Especially about the cell phones. A lot of people feel much safer with them. With a huge crowd especially. And what about people with medical needs? What are they suppose to do? A cell phone can seriously be a life line at times. Being in a huge group and something bad happens? You need to be able to reach someone. Or you get separated from your friends or get lost.
As for video/pictures everyone love them. Pictures mean so much to people cause you can always look back “I Was There!”. And with video,if the label doesn’t like it,they can always contact the websites like youtube/myspace to take it down that’s why they hire all those people. It makes them look lazy imo.
also, why would security waste time w/this when i’m pretty sure there are more important things to be doing. i’ve been to big name artist shows at huge venues w/these types of policy’s (not country) and they really don’t care.
You might want to update your readers that according to the KCOFC, cameras are still allowed at shows. The post that was made about cameras no longer being allowed was up for 5 minutes and then taken down because someone changed their minds. WHich is why the post SHOULD NOT of left the KCOFC.
BUT, any caught taking video with a camera or cell phone, will have them taken away. So please do not do it. My show isn’t until August and I know that as a fan, I respect an artists wished not to take videos. And Kenny isn’t the only artist that does it.
Ohhhhh – Don’t EVEN get me started on Kenny Chesney – can someone say “Too Big for His Britches”?
Oh hell no I will not stand for this I’m going to my first kenny concert here in Philly on the 27th of June and this it totally unfair to us the fans who pay are hard earned money that we really don’t have to be treated like it’s wrong.
If this stands I don’t know what I will do I need my cellphone to call my nubby when the concert is over. This can’t stand we can’t stand for this. I think kenny seriuously needs to rethink this. Cause if this stands he’s gonna lose a awful lot of fans.
AGAIN, you guys, according to the Official Fan Club for Kenny, there was a mistake and the fan club president jumped the gun and posted something too soon. CAMERAS WILL STILL BE ALLOWED AT SHOWS. But if caught taking videos, your camera will be taken
[...] Country Music Tattle Tale [...]
All the reason for them to get off their butts and sell a concert dvd!!!! I’m one who is guilty of recording at concerts for my own personal use and share with friends who couldn’t afford to go AND to prove that Kenny puts on one hell of a show to the doubters! He should be happy to see his videos on youtube, it helps him out in the end! I will not pay for any show that I can’t take my camera too.
I also doubt anyone standing near somebody recording will stir up any trouble by telling them to stop…hellooooooo…..Like they are really paying attention to their surroundings and not on the artist…duh!
I read somewhere that Kenny has a new concert manager. These changes are probably coming from the company who now handles his concerts and this is happening, from what i understand, with more than Kenny.
Don’t know how true this is but…..
[...] I have to say is WHAT A PRICK! Kenny Chesney has a BIG problem with cameras at his shows. We told you back in May that Kenny had made a few changes to policies allowing you to only take [...]
