I was lucky enough to talk to John Rich this afternoon to get an idea of what fans can expect from the new Big & Rich tour that kicks off in Minnesota on June 12th.
I must admit that this was an intimidating interview for me. I have been a HUGE John Rich fan for a long time now and I know enough about him to know that if I wasn’t on top of my game for the interview that he would call me on it! You can say what you want about John Rich but personally I LOVE him. He isn’t afraid to tell you how it is and he doesn’t apologize for who he is. During the interview he was very charming and is a professional who knows how to handle business.
Take a listen to the first half of our interview. You will find out what to expect from the upcoming Big & Rich tour, find out if John plans to tour solo for “Son of a Preacher Man” and find out how you can win a trip to Nashville to live a day in the life of John Rich and a special mentorship experience that is “fit for a king.”
Check back tomorrow for Part 2 of our interview with John. It’s a really fun interview where he tells CMTT about his first kiss, we get a impromptu performance of a song John wrote called “If My Guitar Could Take I’d Be in Prison” and he tells us about future album and writing plans.
Check out more about the Big & Rich tour at www.bigandrich.com or find out how you can get a copy of “Son of a Preacher Man” at www.johnrich.com

Great interview! I really like John Rich to. I think that most people just have a hard time relating to people who speak their mind the way that John Rich does. He doesn’t always say the things that people want to hear so people don’t like him. Since I have a lot of the same feeling and beliefs that he has I can relate to how pissed off he is. I say he should get a pat on the back for standing up and speaking out the way that he does.
Screw John Rich. He’a an ass. He has always been as ass and he will always be an ass.
I love how people can come in and make comments anonymously. John Rich might come across as an ass at times but at least he is passionate about the things that he believes in. You can think what you want about John Rich, it’s not going to stop him from writing songs that he feels are important and he isn’t going to change who he is because some anonymous person thinks he’s an ass.
I was at the Birthday Bash for a radio station in Nashville a few weeks ago and got to see John perform. I thought he was great. Not at all what I expected. I don’t know much about him but from what I saw that night I liked him. Maybe he plays as ass on TV because that’s what people expect of him.
Great interview! Looking forward to Part 2 tomorrow!
Woot woot Country Girl! That was AWESOME!!!
John is an amazing artist !! My Sister & I have known him for about 15 years…He is WHO he is! John is allways the same…Like when some of the people we have known in the past have gone on to be Major Country Artists…they have developed Selective Amnesia…meaning They DON’T know ya anymore…JOHN has NEVER done that! He is the exact SAME as the 1st time we met him!! He only acts like an ASS Because the MUSIC ROW peolpe were ALL such ASSES to him for years!!! Believe me……Sis & I saw it first hand!! So, He is just giving it back!! LOL NO ONE DESERVES to have “made it” more than him!! This guy EATS SLEEPS and does whatever it takes to ‘do music”
My Sis & I are very proud of HIM & Even More proud to call him FRIEND!!!!
Great interview!
To weigh in on the JR debate – I’ve never been overly impressed by his attitude, but I do have a great respect for his passion about the things that he believes in. I was also at the birthday bash at the Wildhorse in Nashville last month and I was VERY surprised at how nice, down to earth, and genuine he seemed – that night I walked out with a much different impression of him than I had walked in with.
[...] posted Part 1 of our John Rich interview for you [...]
Ok, Tawny – I am well aware that I say the word awesome a lot. Apparently it’s my “nervous word”. I am getting help with the problem and having it addressed. No need to make fun of people’s problems. : ) LOL
I think your interview was great. I would have been really nervous to talk to someone like John Rich. He is so unpredictable. He seems to have softened his image lately. I hope we get to see a nicer side of John out on tour this year.
I don’t think he has softened at all. Look at all the fights and the lawsuits against him. Marriage hasn’t seemed to changed him for the better if at all. Maybe he’s rebelling against being tied down, but he doesn’t seem like a happy and content person with all the trouble he’s getting into. His behavior has only gotten worse since the wedding. I love his music, and he seems like a fun guy to interview, but he has serious issues with violence and alcoholism. Not to mention his reputation as a womanizer. I don’t think he will ever really settle down.
