Gretchen Wilson Hopes to Make Peace With Her Mom

We are hoping that Mother’s Day for Gretchen Wilson was an extra special one.  The Boot reports that she hasn’t spoken with her mother in years but hoped to reconnect with her yesterday.

Gretchen’s mom was only 16 when she gave birth to the future country star. Gretchen has described her upbringing as tumultuous, as she and her mom moved from trailer park to trailer park, living in poverty. According to the Associated Press, she has said that her mother often abused drugs and alcohol, as a means of numbing the pain of an abusive relationship.

“As far as I know, things are going a lot better with her life than they were previously,” Gretchen tells the AP of her mom. “So I’m thinking that this Mother’s Day, we might reconnect.”

Gretchen is a mom herself, to 8-year-old Grace. The singer went back to school this year to get her G.E.D., for the primary purpose of being a good role model to her daughter.

“Mothers and daughters have that rivalry thing,” Wilson jokes. “And now that I have my diploma, I have something that she doesn’t have. So I have a feeling just knowing her and knowing she’s like me, she’ll have to have one, too!”

Gretchen’s fourth album, ‘I Got Your Country Right Here,’ is due for release this summer.

Hoping that yesterday was the Mother’s Day that helped turn things around Gretchen!
