Keith Urban usually has lines of guitars ready to go during his arena shows.  Sometimes, a particular guitars sound is needed for a particular song, and sometimes it’s just about the look.  Keith’s brand of choice is the Fender guitar, and his newest guitar is all about the glitz. 

Yuriy Shishkov, a Fender guitar maker from the former USSR, is working with Keith to make a custom Fender Telecaster.

He wants one with a top that looks like a cracked mirror, or a disco ball — they’re still shooting e-mails back and forth on the final design. Urban is after something that will split the light into hundreds of fragments that will be reflected back on his fans.

But, the guitar also has to be practical. Keith is a very “involved” guitar player.

Shishkov is thinking beyond just achieving the mirrored effect, beyond cementing and grouting the sharp-edged pieces so they don’t slice Urban’s hands while he plays. He’s added a strip of sparkling metal-flake veneer on the edge of the guitar body to heighten the dazzle factor.

I’ll be seeing this shiny-new guitar first hand from the 5th row in Huntsville, so I’ll be sure to snap a few pictures.
