John Rich is “Shuttin Down Detroit”

The Boot has a great article about John Rich and his accidental single “Shutting Down Detroit.”  Apparently, John has been doing several radio interviews promoting his upcoming solo album.  John is no stranger to controversy, politics, or  speaking his mind; so while promoting via the radio circuit, he performed a song he wrote about the current events in Washington.

I’ve been watching the news like everybody else,” Rich told Detroit radio station WYCD. “I’m sitting there, getting madder and madder, watching New York and Washington D.C. sling billions of dollars back and forth to each other while the hard-working people in America are just going, ‘What in the world is going on up there?’”

The song pretty much sums up what’s happening to the hard-working people who are losing their jobs while politicians fling billions of dollars back and forth attempting to “fix” the problem.

“This is what country music’s all about to me,” Rich told New Jersey’s K98.5 radio. “Try to say something that matters to you as an artist and a fan of country music — and if it matters to me, there’s a good chance it’s gonna matter to a lot of other people.”

The fan response was overwhelming.  They wanted more.  So, John immediately put the brakes on his record so he could record and add the song to the album.

You can catch John Rich performing the song on The Boot

I know John Rich can be kind of well…a jerk.  He knows it.  We know it.  But you gotta give him kudos for speakin his mind.  All of us sit around complaining about stuff, but too many of us are afraid to actually say something…or we make ourselves anonymous…too afraid to actually put our face with our words.  You go John Rich!!!  Stick it to the MAN!

Aside from the fact that there’s something unsettling about a celebrity-obsessed multi-millionaire preaching about the plight of the everyman, “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” is a topical attempt at discussing a very complicated problem.  The 9513.com With “Shuttin’ Detroit Down,” John Rich not only has gotten himself on the radio, he’s got himself a song that should generate single and album sales and it actually is the kind of song the audience wants hear.  – Roughstock I know John Rich can be kind of well…a jerk.  He knows it.  We know it.  But you gotta give him kudos for speakin his mind.  All of us sit around complaining about stuff, but too many of us are afraid to actually say something…or we make ourselves anonymous… – Country Music Tattle tail [...]
