Horray for CMT! Calling Jessica Simpson Out on Her Antics

I was surfing the net tonight and can’t find anything to blog about.  I was just about to give up when I found this outstanding article over at CMT.com.  It’s a review in sorts of the Jessica Simpson opening act in Greenville, SC.

Multiple choice: This photo shows Jessica Simpson showing off her:

a. Latest single
b. Powerful vocals
c. New dress
d. Other

You be the judge. The photo is from her performance Thursday night (Jan. 23) in Greenville, S.C., as she opened the show for Rascal Flatts. My first reaction upon seeing this photo was that she must be in pain. My second, well, I’ll keep that to myself. But I’m pretty sure this picture says or, rather, shows it all. Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to hate on Jessica Simpson. I think she is a beautiful woman. But what are your thoughts about her fashion choice?

Whitney Self, I applaud you and your writing skills. This was so elegantly executed.  So CMTT readers, what do you think about Jessica’s fashion choice?  Seriously – what are your thoughts?

I could tell you my thoughts on the picture and the outfit but I know you already know what I am thinking.  I don’t know that I have as much tact as I need to express everything that is wrong with this picture.  Did Jessica Simpson forget that she is opening for Rascal Flatts?  The audience is a sea of women – not horny men looking for a cheap thrill.

Wow, that is totally gross!!! I guess when you can’t sing you have to do something to keep the audience’s attention! Since she pumped up her lips, I wonder if she also pumped up her boobs for the tour too. She really needs to get a different PR manager and a designer to help her pick more appropiate attire for a tour. When you let it all hang out like that it justs shows that you are gettin really desperate.

  2. Higher says:

current discussion is mixed. A lot of people saying just look at what Carrie, Kellie, Taylor, Shania, even Dolly have worn and her’s isn’t any worse. She just has the bigger chest (with the exception of Dolly, of course!). I agree. Jessica’s not the only one to pull out the sex appeal. Maybe cover it up a bit more, but as someone there said, if you got it flaunt it. Of you don’t, fake it. Jess flaunts.

  3. Styx says:

Read the board on CMT. Lots more people are Ok with it than not looks like. That is very true though, she’s not the only one to use sex appeal. Someone brought up Dolly’s old Playboy cover. I forgot all about that. Carrie wears thigh-highs and mini’s, Taylor wears mini-dresses and usually no underwear and then has water falling on her! Kellie has had surgery and “augmentations.” No, I can’t condemn Jessica for this outfit, what with all the other fake cleavage bearing, costume changers in country today. no way.
    Flaunt away Jess.

  4. Styx says:

People who were there posted and said she preformed better too. Even Craig Shelburne said “I’m pleased to report that Simpson has gained confidence since the last time I saw her perform.” which is a huge compliment from him. he’s hard to impress.

  5. TawnyTucker says:

I have to say….I don’t care if people with great bod’s flaunt em…but I do think that Jessica’s top might be a size small…”the girls” can hardly breath.. …There is trashy sexy and classy sexy…Kellie has crossed the line a couple of times, but she has a likeable personality so she gets away with it. But, isn’t it all about the music? I mean…huh….Jessica is all about the music right?!

  6. Sarah says:

Like Kellie? Lets be real here: if this was anyone other than Jessica Simpson this wouldn’t be a issue at all. That’s not fair. If Kellie crossed the line, where were all the outraged country fans? When she wore a more revealing dress than that when she preformed at the CMA’s it was hardly an issue.

  7. Country says:

I don’t really care how they dress, or if they pump up their lips, or even if they get a little help with their boobs (sometimes too much help), what I care about is how they sound. I think Dolly Parton is wonderful. She can sing. She writes, she’s a real entertainer. And for the record, I think she looks awesome…fake boobs, perfectly styled wigs, false fingernails, short skirts, and all of it. I’m a huge country music fan. But, when Jessica Simpson sings – I’m just not hearing ‘country’. I really don’t know why Rascal Flatts (who I like enough that one of their songs is my ringtone) would even have her opening for them. Maybe all the real country acts were already taken. But I honestly don’t care how she looks…. I just wish she sounded country.

Thanks for all the comments about Jessica’s wardrobe….didin’t think everyone would have so much to say. : ) I’m gonna start from the top and work my way down. Higher and Styx : I TOTALLY agree that Jessica is not the ONLY one to pull the sexy stunt to get attention. The problem is that it is Jessica. Dollly admits that she dresses like a “street walker”. I heard Dolly in an interview on Bob and Tom say that is where her look came from in first place. BUT here is the BIG difference. Even if Dolly did get her inspiration from a street walker, she pulls it off with class and respect. She can poke fun at herself and still makes herself a self respected woman. Jessica tires to act holy and innocent and ‘oh poor me”. She brings these sort of things on herself with the things that she says and the things that she does. If she just stood up and said look – “i’ve got it so i’m gonna flaunt it” people would accept it more. Instead she makes excuses and says it’s everyone elses fault but her own.

Sarah: I am not sure what others said about Kellie’s outfit at the CMA’s but I know what I said. And I quote “Kellie Pickler in that black leather dress. I don’t know why she can’t cover herself up sometimes.”

  9. Country Girl says:

Country – AMEN sister! Thank you for those wise words. : ) Jessica Simpson and country don’t go hand – in – hand for me either.

  10. Joann says:

ok when i saw her on the grand old opry i was sickened i thought to myself she needs to cover it up and now she’s on tour with the flatts wow she wears something like that when there are children in the crowd.
Jessica Simpson go back to the pop world where you belong you are so not country. I feel sorry for the guys in the flatts I love them but i think this was a bad choice for a opening act. I would have gone with either Juliann Hough or maybe even Lady A. But not jessica i don’t see her being around the country scene to long she just won’t last.

  11. Amanda says:

I thought I was going to gag when I saw that picture. I sure hope she doesn’t dress that way in Charleston!!!

  12. liddy says:

@Styx…just because Craig Shelburne said “I’m pleased to report that Simpson has gained confidence since the last time I saw her perform.” it doesn’t mean he has given her a “huge compliment”. It’s not like he said she gained talent. Her new found confidence probably stems from the fact that she was sure she could distract the audience from her grating voice with her bizarre clothing which caused, not alluring, but painful looking cleavage contortions.

  13. blueblood says:

The only reason the comments at CMT started out mixed is that a few Jessica Simpson apologists found it first and posted multiple times. I wouldn’t assume that the person claiming to have been at the concert was actually there because there some Jessica fans who’ll go around saying anything to defend her.

I’m offended that some of them are using Dolly and Jessica in the same sentence because it ignores the fact that Dolly had more than earned respect for her incredible voice and songwriting, which Jessica hasn’t. Dolly gets away with flaunting her assets because everyone knows that she’s got artistic substance. Jessica’s still searching for an identity and she doesn’t know how to use her voice and stay in key, so when she flaunts her assets it looks like she’s trying to distract people from her lack of talent.

There’s nothing wrong with being sexy but do it in a way that doesn’t distract from your music. Other women in country music are sexy in a classy way, without putting it all out there.

I don’t understand why Rascal Flatts let her come on as their opening act but I guess the pickings must have been slim and maybe they thought their tour would get more media attention because of it.

  14. blueblood says:

Oh and Craig Shelburne usually goes out of his way not to say anything negative about the concerts he reports on. Notice that Craig Shelburne said Jessica sounded more confident than before. That doesn’t mean he thinks she was objectively confident, just that she wasn’t as bad as before. Notice he didn’t say anything about the quality of her singing or songs except that Jessica was belting. IMO it’s more revealing that there was nothing else positive he felt motivated to say about her.

blueblood – horray we finally agree on a subject!!! : )
