Tennessean Taking a Break from Mindy McCready Troubles

So I found an article in the Tennessean today talking about the Mindy McCready troubles.  Before I comment on it I want you to read it.

On Thursday, I reported on country singer Mindy McCready’s attempted suicide.

Since then, I have given it much thought and decided not to continue writing about any future struggles she may have with jail, rehab, men or other problems.

Clearly, Mindy is a very troubled woman. I do not want to exploit that, so I am giving her privacy so that she can get her life together without pressure of prying eyes. Also, I don’t want any coverage to be perceived as a celebration or reward of this type of behavior. Too often, those who show up every day to do their jobs and quietly help others get no attention, while celebrities behaving badly get too much ink.

It’s been six years since Mindy, 33, has had a major-label deal or charted a record. Since then, it’s been her legal, health and romantic issues, not her music, that have garnered headlines. She has now reached that certain level of notoriety that guarantees media coverage whenever she has another problem.

Obviously I will report on Mindy if it’s bona fide, serious news, and those judgments will be based on the same criteria used to assess coverage of other celebrities at her career level. I would be delighted to report on positive career developments should she have a radio hit or successful tour and will be among the first to wish her good luck in her 2009 endeavors.

But until then, I’m going to just wish her well.

You can view the article here.   As I read most of the comments on the article I had to sit back and laugh a little because it was EXACTLY what I was thinking.

Why on earth did this lady write this article?  I heard Mindy on the radio a few weeks ago talking about an upcoming album in 2009, she has always maintained that music was her love and that she would return.

Mindy McCready has placed herself in the spotlight on many occasions.  I remember her telling Oprah that she missed the spotlight.

I feel that this article was very self serving for the author.  I ache for Mindy as most of our readers do.  Obviously she is in a very dark place and I wish the best for her.  I just didn’t see a reason for a reporter to write an article about not writing about someone.
