The Boot recently talked with Dolly Parton and asked her to tell them something about Jessica Simpson that fans might not know. She is quoted as saying;
I think the main thing they may not know is just how sweet and precious she really is,” Dolly said of Jessica. “It really gets under my skin to see them crucify her. She’s a very sincere girl, she’s extremely talented, she’s very bright. I don’t know why the press wants to pick on her. They don’t know what a special person she is.
I was very honored that she even wanted me to write something for her,” says Dolly. “I thought our voices blended together well. I was honored to get to sing with such a great singer.
The title track to Jessica’s first country album, ‘Do You Know,’ was written by Dolly, who also sings on the track.
I admire Dolly Parton very much and normally like what she has to say. BUT…here is why the media feels the need to tear into Jessica Simpson. She gives us SO many reasons to! I know that we can be extra harsh on Jessica here. We do realize that she is a person who has feelings but she also needs to realize how media hungry and awful she presents herself. She gives us all of the ammunition that we need to talk about the stories that we talk about.
Kitty Cobbler said it best; “If you are going to be a slut, own it.” We wouldn’t hack on you so badly if you were more real. You say that you are an innocent girl next door but them you shoot videos, take pictures and act like something completely different. Own who you are and we will like you SO much more.

Honestly, I love Jessica Simpson and always have. I became a fan of hers while all my friends were obsessing over Britney and Christina. When you’ve been a fan and you’ve grown up listening to her and you’ve come to know a lot about her, as I have, you kind of get a better understanding of who she is. Yes I have had an oppertunity to meet in her both a professional and causal setting. I ran into her in a store one day and she was kind and swet and gracious. We actually started talking about something we were both looking at and it was until after a good 5 minutes that I finally let her know that I was a huge fan. I’m also met her at the CMA Music Festival back in June and she was just as nice and sweet there. Yes, there’s things she says or does that the media likes to disect and use to pick on her but honestly, in my opinion the real culprit is her father. He’s the one that makes remarks and comments about different things. Don’t punish Jess for what he says. As for the things she says that are “airheaded” or makes her seem like a huge dork, hello, all celebs do that. Taylor Swift is the world’s biggest dork. And as for the part of this article that talked about her coming across as kind of slutty. It’s nothing compared to some other musical acts out there that aren’t picked on. Jessica is very sweet and classy and down to earth. I wish the media would leave her alone.
I would love for the media to leave this girl alone. It has gone way overboard & how she handles all of it I have no idea. The hateful & mean spiritedness is mind blowing. This is an awesome youg gal that as Dolly has pointed out in the past reminds her of herself. Dolly was not openly accepted either & Dolly if anyone has one of those goofy personalities also. I think more than her dad a lot of people can’t get past a once partially scripted reality show & a fairytale romance that did not work. The hate came when Jessica asked for a divorce. She has a right to be happy & fulfilled in life & she wasn’t. It’s not the first a won’t be the last that ever happens to a person.
It bothers me when people like Kellie, Taylor, Carrie & Julianne can write about heart break lost loves & new loves & be accepted but the minute Jessica does all hell breaks loose. Jessica has a wonderful voice but needs more confidence. I hope for one she does not give up on her dream. I am sure with Dolly & Willie behind her along with family & true friends & Tony she will have her dream. Dolly is very passionate about supporting Jessica. Dolly & Willie knwo Jessica very well & I am sure these two legends would not be backing someone like Jessica if they did not believe in her. Its time for the media to back off this woman. How she has not cracked by now I have no idea.
